Apologies, once again, for the very late community showcase post this month, showing off the very coolest hobby from the month of September! I’ve been absolutely wallopped by my brain this month resulting in extremely low productivity (and self-worth, I guess, but hey ho) so I have to give a huge thanks to Momma Negan for helping me collate the images for this article. I’d struggle to do this without their amazing help this month. So let’s get in and look at the absolutely stonkingly wonderful hobby the folks in the PaintSlam discord have been up to over the month of September!

And there we go, once again another stunning month of hobby from the PaintSlam community. Amazing work everyone! Keep it up, and keep filling those logbooks in!
As the kids on Twitch might say, today’s post is “pretty pog”. The #PaintSlam21 discord has been full of awesome hobby over the last few months, so I want to take this opportunity to share some of the wicked miniatures you folks have been painting on your PaintSlam adventures.
I’ll be building this article, as always, using your submitted works from the Community Showcase channel in the discord channel so if you’re not already with us check out the links at the main #PaintSlam21 page for all the details <3
On with the hobby!
ALTARNIS
“My Knight of Shrouds finally complete”
Nice! Always sweet to see some well painted Nighthaunt!
CALLIE
“Legion events starting up over the next few weeks, so speed-painting loads of bits, but these three were on my painting resolution list for this year so I’m happy to have them finished! Not used Leia yet so figure she’ll become one of my new go-to choices!”
Really nice work!
CEE
“I was surprised how effective such a simple paint scheme turned out to be. Black base, slaanesh grey drybrush, nuln oil wash, skink blue drybrush, another was of nuln and a final limited skink blue drybrush for the odd detail. Silver on the claws & fangs finished the look. It’s also a solid size match, aside from the base, for a hive tyrant.”
Great work all around here!
CHRISRITI
“If you’re going to subjugate a world, you need an army.
Guardsmen, Space Marines, or Stormtroopers are fine…but don’t hold a candle to Mastodon Sentries.”
I love the vivid colours on the rangers!
FIN37
“[Re]Posting here for sweet blog post action”
Lovely Tzaangor models, I love how they really pop against the desert like bases! The rubric marines are also fab. Tzeentch stuff is tricky to paint!
GARDENGOTH
“Red hot space elf action”
“My first finished squad in 15mm. Bit of a slow process working things out but I think the next one will be quicker as a result!”
Sums it up really! Lovely stuff.
HEAVYMETALWARS
“Full Dark Angels force to date. Didn’t expect to enjoy painting this army I’ve never been a fan of the chapter, but I’ve loved every moment of painting it.”
Absolutely gorgeous army here, I also appreciate the classic card terrain! Some of this stuff is so old it can remember when Caliban was intact!
KOMMISSAR_AZURA
“Skitarii Auxilia Equitate, Skitarii bound into a Centaur auto-chariots.”
How cool are these!
KING_KABU
“Finished my evil stargrave crew and some heroes for a second, less evil crew”
These are great, and so bright! I love the little bulldog chappy!
MOMMYNEGAN
“Hehe”
I love the hazard striping on the Iron Warrior here, it’s super sharp! And how about the burn-your-eyes-brightness of that lovely retro ‘nid?
PANDAEMONIUM_MINIATURES
“Finished my Armsmaster from Conquest”
Oooh, a submission as a video! I like this model, the Conquest stuff looks really nice and you’ve done great work as always!
PSIPPIT
“Finished my Warlord, all ready to roll for the first game next weekend since the first lockdown…”
Great, I love the stippling/marble texture on the panels!
RUBY MAGICAL GIRL
“JD at last four months in this model. XD”
Slow and steady wins the race! Lovely work 🙂
SHEROQUEER
“I know bun-fu!”
I love that kung-fu rabbit, what a character! And I always love your super trans tyranids!
SPARTAN06
“90 shock troops, 100% finished!”
Now that’s impressive to see! More lovely cannon fodder for the emperor!
THEELUSIVESHAUN
“I tried out some more intricate freehand than usual on this Greek Hoplite and I’m really happy with how it came out.”
Fantastic work, the freehand is very impressive!
THOKAMOUS
“Finished these up this weekend”
Nicely painted historial models! Not something I’m familiar with but great work 🙂
WREN
“Look who’s finally done – my first HQ!”
I love this Dark Angels librarian, it’s just the perfect design for an Unforgiven psycher.
And so we arrive at the start of May, and Golden Oldies month officially draws to a close. This April challenge was to paint something that fit the theme of a “Golden Oldie” – this could be a really old miniature, something thats been in your backlog for many years, a model of an old character, however you wanted to interpret it! Let’s take a look at what you wonderful hobbyists got up to for this project!
Cee, aka the Dork Phoenix, painted up this Krell model. The bright red harks back to a nostalgic era for many of us!
From Kemp, comes his first ever “proper” paint job as he calls it, a classic beakie Blood Angels space marine. Lovely work!
From Heavy Metal Wars comes a Rogue Trader Astropath and a Talisman 2nd edition Astropath standing in an old ruined chapel, a scenery piece that was a card insert from White Dwarf 212! Not only that, but check out that lovely unit of classic Grey Knights! And certainly not least, a classic beakie space marine from the Rogue Trader era in custom chapter colours of the Star Breakers!
From PSippit we have this classic Adeptus Titanicus titan, which afaik dates back to the late 80s! The modern paint job really hides its age well, it could stand proudly amongst a modern AT collection!
ThePoshGoblin is a hobbyist after my own heart with this, the original classic Orion model from back in the day! Got to love a bit of the retro Wood Elves!
It’s heresy time now, with this old school Chaos Sorcerer from BigGeordieGeek! Again I love the bright reds and greens here that really bring out that classic 90s vibe.
theelusiveshaun shared this Ork warbike, complete with evil sun iconography on the banner pole and front of the bike! Really lovely work!
Something from myself now, a unit of metal 90s Wood Elf archers with full command. I’ve always adored these archers and will probably aim to add more at some point to my growing Wood Elf army! I also added Ariel and a unit of classic metal Dryads.
You’ve seen one Krell, now it’s time for an even older Krell courtesy of Mommy Negan. Green base, red armour, banner pole, what’s not to adore? Mommy also shared a few other characters – a Wood Elf, an Empire halberdier and a Dwarf!
From Usagi/SHeroQueer comes this 1995 Hive Tyrant. Looks fabulous to me, would slip right into a modern army seamlessly! That’s not all though, she also shared this lovely HeroQuest warrior model!
Thokamous shared this Sgt. Rock for us, and although it did make it into last month’s community showcase he’s from an old comic and thus qualifies to get another showing! 🙂
From Art comes a trio of retro wonderfulness! The 1990 Maurauder Giant, a metal Imperial War Wagon and Malus Darkblade upon Cold One! A really varied and nostalgic mix of miniatures!
Aaaaand that brings us to the end of the Golden Oldies month. I think you’ll agree that we’ve seen a great selection of classic models here! If you’d like to join us in the #PaintSlam21 community and enter future events, please checkout the PaintSlam21 page for all the info!
So we come to the end of January, I do hope you’ve all been doing well in spite of the ongoing events in the world. For those of us taking part in #PaintSlam21 it’s been a busy old month as we start new armies, clear stuff from our backlogs or just paint stuff for ongoing projects!
Let’s take a look at some of the activity from over in the official PaintSlam Discord!
From Azakael we have this lovely archer lady. I love the use of texture on the cloak! From Bradalads we have this absolutely gorgeous Mortarion. I love how saturated the colours are, he positively explodes into your retinas with his sickly glory!Hedgehog39 shared this wonderful warrior princess and her girlfriend! 🙂 I adore these models.ZangMac shared this lovely miniature! I really like the subtle colours in here that compliment the light grey of the armour.
PSippitt shared these images of their first Dracoline for the stormcast eternals. The pallid purple hide is really striking with the orange scales.PSippitt also painted this classic wierdboy for the Space Orks army!
BigGeordieGeek shared these lovely Necron warriors and scarabs for his New Year, New Army project. I can’t wait to see more for this force!
Paul, aka Pandaemonium_Miniatures shared this seasoned veteran from Conquest: The Last Arguement of kings. The diamonds on the shield are spectacular!Paul also shared this little scene, doesn’t this look fab?Cee brings us this lovely Escher gang for Necromunda. I love the various pride-themed colour splashes in the hair that really offset the grimy metals elsewhere.
From Papa Negan come this grot warband from Warhammer Underworlds. The yellow robes give this band of gobbos a really unique and vibrant appearance!
From the lovely Mogwai86 we have this fabulous purple Ork vehicle! Forgive me for not knowing the specific variant but whatever it is it’s got plenty of dakka and can probably make a bit of a mess!
Mike(Kharagal) says: “Slightly converted Chaos War Dog with Thermal Spear, meltagun and Reaper Chain-cleaver. It was my first Knight so I didn’t go too detailed on it and will probably revisit it at some point for a bit of weathering. I’m really pleased with how the rusted chains turned out!“
Vargna shared these awesome and terrifying Flesh Eater Courts nasties! Don’t wanna meet this in a dark alley!King_Kabu presented this realistic M4A2 Sherman! It’s nice to see some more non-GW models showing up in the PaintSlam discord!Vaelthurs painted this lovely statuette of Yuna from Final Fantasy X as a gift for a friend! I really love the attention to detail, the gradients and freehand patterns are lovely! It’s like she’s stepped straight out of the game! Finally my lovely partner Lenalevelsup got the finishing touches put down on this retro 80s Harlequins troupe! She was particularly proud of the patterns and diamonds she applied to the bodysuits!
And this is just scratching the surface of the awesome hobby you can find in the discord and on social media using the #PaintSlam21 hashtag!
So I’ve had a busy couple of weeks since the last update post. I’ve been hard at work both with working on my Wood Elves, a little bit of commission work and restarting my Twitch streams!
Rather than waffle on and on and on, I thought it would be better to just share all the new models I’ve added to my 90s Wood Elf army as a nice little gallery post!
So, without further delay, check em out!
Wood Elf Lord on Elven Steed. I have since added a banner and a spike to the end of the spear.Wood Elf Mage on Elven Steed. I always really liked this model!Wood Elf Glade Riders. Imagine my face when I actually managed to get these ancient transfers to lift from the paper!Scarloc! Technically he’s 80s but he’s in the army book, so here he is.Aenur, Sword of Twilight. I don’t know how he snuck into the army but I’m not going to ask him to leave. I saw what happened to the last person who tried that.Battle Standard Bearer. I copied the banner from the army book as a vector illustration in Adobe Illustrator (download it for yourself here!) and got it printed out for me via an online service. Very happy with the results!Waywatchers! Absolutely classic models. The Contrast paints worked really nicely on these models I think, so I only did minimal highlights and stuff at the end.
