    Your hobby goals for 2021

    About a week ago I put out the call on Twitter for folks to let us know what they are aiming for in 2021 – your hobby goals!

    Not neccesarily a resolution, but a vague idea of what you’d like to achieve in the year at least! Let’s see what you folks are trying to do in this year of 2021…

    These are mine, proud of what I managed last year so lets see if we can do better this year in terms of quality as opposed to quantity!

    Getting my hobby bench back in service properly, (behold my shame), & actually painting something is my main goal for 2021.

    The inspiring project is building #TeamYankee Iran/Iraq opposing forces. I've never worked w/ 15mm before and both have very different desert motifs.

    I'm going with this! Managed to finish a Sanguinary Priest and an Impulsor in two days so if I can keep this pace up should be a good year!

    I think I want to paint my Primaris Pile in the old school bright red Blood Angels scheme, and convert some as Olde Marine Units.

    I also am eyeing the upcoming Slaanesh stuff.

    I want to delve into more non GW stuff.

    And dip my toes into some Old Hammer.

    My main goal to finish painting my Konflict 47 soviet army. I started in 2017, a mate started a U.S army at the same time and finished it ages ago. I’m determined to get them finished before lockdown ends or he may kill me. Other projects too, but want to be a better painter 👍

    Firstly, after painting the Angels of Purification, I should finish the Cerberus.
    But mainly I want to finish Shadowspear (x2), then start on the Indomitus boxes (x2), Paint the Munda Enforcers & entourage. Finish the Escher gang, finish the Ambot gang. Swap the head of Goliaths

    I have but one goal this year…I plan to paint ONE THOUSAND miniatures.

    My inspiration is nothing more than the boxes and boxes of unpainted and/or unbuilt minis I've had laying around for YEARS. It's time for those to go away.

    Community Spotlight – Aekold Helbrass’s Legion

    The lovely Papa Negan over on the official #PaintSlam21 Discord is joining in with her own Oldhammer project (we’re making 2021 the year of making an oldhammer/middlehammer army, with an emphasis on a 5th edition era collection!)

    HobbySlam21 project – Aekold Helbrass’s Legion

    “Joining Jess this year I’ll be doing an Oldhammer project of my own, a small Legion for the coolest warlord of Tzeentch, Aekold Helbrass, the man with the breath of life.”

    “My army will be two 12 man units of Chaos Warriors, 5 Chaos Knights, 5 Pink horrors and Aekold Helbrass of course. Included in this post is a picture of a test Chaos Warrior which showcases my paint scheme for the army.”

    “The general emphasis should be on relatively bright colors, but with the base design I’d also like to add the general theme of Aekold with bringing life wherever he and his followers go. But all in all, I’m looking forward to painting a full army this year for the first time ever.”

    Thanks for sharing Papa Negan! I can’t wait to see how this army progresses.

    2020: Painthammer Memories

    It is perhaps most charitable to say that 2020, as a year, was “interesting”. With much of the world spending extended periods in lockdown, and with so many lives lost to the pandemic, things were rough for a lot of us. Even if we were not directly affected by the virus itself, we all felt its impact be that working from home, not being able to visit our loved ones or even pop down to the local hobby store for a regular Sunday tournament!

    Well, with the year wrapping up with a look forward to 2021 and whatever that year brings, it’s also time to wrap up #Painthammer2020. As the year ends, please do post your hobby log and any models you’re particularly proud of on social media with the hashtag so we can all see!

    I put out the call over at the PaintSlam! Discord server for folks to share a model or unit from their Painthammer 2020 adventure, and where possible a little note about them too. So this article is now going to be a showcase of models as posted in the submission channel. I’m sure you’ll enjoy seeing the breadth of hobby that got done during 2020!

    So without further ado, let’s take a dive into the submissions!

    Martin painted this brilliant Mortarion, daemon primarch of Nurgle. Keen eyed readers will notice the wings are taken from an Age of Sigmar Tauralon kit!
    From Papa Negan, we have these lovely three Old World models! I’m a big fan of the Wood Elf complete with era-appropriate striped leggings!
    From BigGeordieGeek we have this stunning Blood Ravens gunship! I think it’s a Storm Talon? I’m not good with Space Marine vehicles, they all merge into one a bit for me haha.
    From my friend Bangus we have these brilliant new Necron warriors. I really love the basing on these, the tiled ground really sets them in place.
    Another post from Papa Negan, a metal Army of the Dead painted in ghostly colours.
    Guilty brings us this Ork! This is their first painted model, so huge congrats on taking that first step into the hobby!
    From TheElusiveShaun comes this rather unique character! I’ll let them explain:
    “I think my highlight was this Subnautican Behemoth for Necromunda. The Water Guild were fleshed out a little in the Escher book, and their background really stood out to me. This guy spends his time diving into the various water channels of the give city, clearing always debris and anything else clogging the pipelines, and when he’s not doing that, he’s an enforcer/bodyguard for those higher up in the guild. There are no official models for these guys yet so I had to kit bash him and it’s probably one of the models I’m most proud of.”
    From Azakael: “Literally the only model I finished in 2020.” – I always say Painthammer/PaintSlam isn’t really about how much you paint, it’s just that you did.
    Bangus returns, this time with some Deathwatch! “I really enjoyed painting deathwatch this year for kill team as it was something outside my usual 3 armies plus ive always been very daunted by black prior to Abaddon. I also really like the dark flame effect on the terminator.”
    Russintexas submitted this glorious horde of greenskins! “During the month of Orktober, I printed & painted ~1650 points of Orks from GearGutz’ MekShop. I learned a lot about FDM printing, painting to a schedule, and so much more.”
    Bradalads submitted these absolutely wonderful Lizardmen! “It’s tough to choose as I’ve painted a lot this year but it had to be some of my Dinos and I absolutely love my unit of Pridosaurs (there’s about 12 in all, sorry I forgot to do a group shot)”
    The esteemed Hobbyistgirl submitted Leman Russ himself! The NMM effects on the armour are breathtaking.
    BigGeordieGeek returns again, this time with the Wurmspat from Warhammer Underworlds. I’m a big Nurgle fan so I appreciate these a lot – I can’t wait to paint them myself too!
    Goomba is here! A wide range of models painted over 2020 this time, from a fantastic glowing C’tan thingy to more lovely Nurgle! And a ninja Pikachu!
    JoeMango submitted these two miniatures. I particularly like the use of texture and the details in these!
    From Mogwai86 we have Da Red Gobbo, the Christmas 2019 model from Games Workshop! This is such a characterful model and they did it great justice with this paintjob!
    *tap tap* Oh, BigGeordieGeek tapped me on the shoulder once again to show us his lovely Mortarion! The heavily weathered and corroded metal looks fab.
    Painthammer and PaintSlam have always been open to all sorts of miniature painting, not just Games Workshop products! Guilty returns, this time they have painted this wonderful hanging Christmas ornament! “I’m really proud of the work I did on the detailing, and how the scroll and skin came out, especially as I only just started painting this year!”
    Vaelthurs submitted these wonderful images to the gallery. I think the Light of Eltharion looks incredibly striking with the bold red amour!
    RedDragon submitted this wonderful Dark Angels Master, which was painted as a birthday gift for a friend!
    And finally, we come to the end of the article, so here’s a bunch of models which I personally painted and am proud of for this year. I’ve definitely been on a retro Wood Elf kick, with my goal for #PaintSlam21 to build and paint a full 90s (4th/5th edition Fantasy) Wood Elf army, green bases and all. So Stay tuned for that!

His mechanicus army is full of unique flourishes and you can really see every model gets a personal touch.
